Joe Meek Shall Inherit The Earth
This is a compilation CD featuring all brand new recordings of Joe Meek tracks. This tribute to the prolific 50's/60's producer who eventually shot his landlady before turning the gun on himself was put together by Alan Wilson at Western Star over the past two years. Many of Meek massive hits are included in the tribute, along with some great obscure and interesting tracks. Joe Meek is one of the very few producers with a big fan club and cult following. The Joe Meek Appreciation Society have really taken to this project and have given it good coverage in their 'Thunderbolt' magazine. The Tribute features many of today's Rockabilly and Rock'n'Roll musicians from the Western Star artist roster - with one exception; Mike Berry. All Mike's classic early 60's UK hits were produced by Meek and Western Star have lured him back into the studio to re-record three of his timeless songs. 25 tracks and extensive sleeve notes written by respected Rock'n'Roll Historian and BBC broadcaster Geoff Barker make this a great value for money package.
"This tribute has been very tastefully done and it's great to hear Mike Berry sounding like a teenager again." Musician & Ex BBC broadcaster (now a big-time Nashville producer) Stuart Coleman.
"This is a great tribute from the 'Sun Records' of the West Country. All these current bands... playing Joe's stuff with so much energy, in the 21st Century? The stuff of sci-fi when viewed from 1960. I reckon he'd have loved it!" Geoff Barker. BBC Radio. July 2004
"I have to admit not knowing that Joe Meek was responsible for a lot of these songs 'Johnny Remember Me' 'Just Like Eddie' 'Don't You Rock Me Daddy O' 'Cumberland Gap' the list goes on. Howlin' Wilson takes the honours on Joe Meek's most famous tune 'Telstar' as well as 'Fireball' If the idea of this album was to introduce Joe Meek to a new audience it has worked, at least for me." Simon Nott
"Whilst there are a lot of people on the Rockabilly scene who are vaguely aware of Joe Meek, I think there are a lot who have yet to really discover his treasures, so I'm hoping this CD will help make them curious about his work." Mike Berry
