The Fantoms
Vintage recordings from this great 'forgotten' (not by me!) British Rock'n'roll band. The Fantoms played late 50s/early 60s Rock'n'roll/Twang in the tradition of bands of nowadays like The Rapiers, The Flames, Pipeline 61 or Jet Black. This album is dedicated to the early Cliff & The Shadows - a must for every Rocker! Members of this band later joined The Deltas and The Roomates. 'Five foot two, eyes of blue' was a 45 on The Magnum record label (1981), backed with 'Idle star' which was by far the best side. This 45 now sells for up to 35 Pounds! Nice to see I get a mention in the booklet!"The Fantoms started life in the late Summer of 1980 after a band called 'Rebound' called it a day. We were all local lads from Hillingdon in England. Three of The Fantoms had been in Rebound at one time or another. Rebound used to perform a lot of 'Rollin' Rock' tunes, i.e., Ray Campi and Mac Curtis as well as Elvis, Eddie Cochran, Cliff Richard and Billy Fury. The band had been together since 1971....
London DJ 'Wild Wax' was looking for a Shadows type band for a Cliff Richard documentary at that time. He heard the band's demo 'Never Mind' and The Fantoms got the job! They recorded 'D In Love' with Cliff on April 30, 1981. After a show with Cliff at London's 'Hardrock Cafe', the gigs were coming in pretty fast. In June the band went into the studio to record six songs, 'Don't Knock Upon My Door', 'Nearly All The Time', 'No Fancy Car', 'Idle Star', 'Fallen Shadow' and 'Satellite'. In August, still 1981, they went back to the studio to record their single 'Five Foot Two (Eyes Of Blue)', backed with a slower version of 'Idle Star' for the Magnum Force label." from CD booklet
