Big Boy Bloater & His Southside Stompers

Stompin' swingin' R&B from Big Boy Bloater and his pals. They may not be the prettiest, but boy - can they ROCK!.

Big Boy Bloater and his Southside Stompers are one of Britain's premier 1950's era Jump Blues/Rhythm & Blues bands. Their repertoire includes songs by Ike Turner, Smiley Lewis, Roy Brown, Big Joe Turner, Willie Egans and many more, not to mention plenty of their own fine boogie material! Since their start in 1993 they have consistently been one of the busiest and highly regarded bands on the circuit with their mix of upbeat R&B, Jump Blues and Rock & Roll appealing to audiences across the board.
If you like good-time 50's R&B then Big Boy Bloater and his Southside Stompers are the band for you! With blues shouter vocals, pounding piano, screaming saxes, savage guitar and a rhythm section to die for, they just can't miss!

"This band have more power and energy than a Duracell factory! Mojo Boogie

"16 outstanding R&B killers. This CD is fantastic and a jiver's paradise." Wildcat Pete

"This is a new collection of R&B jumpers from the Bloated one - and true to form it rocks from start to finish with the big sound you'd expect from these veterans of '93. If you're unfamiliar with Big Boy Bloater and the Stompers I reckon they would best be described as the type of band Mark Lamaar would play on Radio 2 (if they existed in the fifties) - in the vein of Jackie Brenston or Big Jay McNeely and the likes - very sexy rhythm and blues.
The title track 'You Better Believe it' gets the album off to a honkin' start getting the toes tapping straight away. In comes 'Rock-A-Bye Baby' with its brilliant boogie woogie piano intro which seems to last for ever, perhaps not even long enough! 'Rock That Boogie' is a terrific jive number and one of the best on the CD, though I've marked out 'Plantation Boogie', an instrumental jumper, and 'Lovin'Machine' as my choices for playing to the mates when they come round for a beer.
Besides Big Boy Bloater's blues shouting vocals I really have to mention the excellent piano work from 'Stomper' Deacon Turner and the vocals on a couple of tracks from their girl tenor sax player Li'l Lisa Jane who brings a lightness to what could otherwise be regarded as perhaps a little dark vocally. Nice to see Spindrift releasing some local product, too! 7/10" Gordon - Koolsville
