Eddie Cochran - L A sessions

This release is an extension of the Eddie Cochran 'Hollywood Sessions' album, with the addition of several previously unissued tracks, together with a number of newly discovered photos. It comes with the usual excellent Rockstar booklet.

"The two opening tracks, JELLY BEAN and DON'T BYE, BYE BABY ME were both exciting discoveries, unearthed during the early 1980's. The tracks were written by Maurice McCall, who managed 'Biff's' Restaurant', located near to Gold Star Studio. Eddie would bring his friends to Biff's before or after a session, so Maurice often had the chance to show Eddie his songs, finally persuading him to record two of them in late 1959; a further two songs would have been recorded, if Eddie had not become unwell towards the end of the session.
Eddie worked on the song HALF LOVED for a period of several weeks (and two sessions) during the Summer of 1956. The more acoustic version from the earlier session is chosen for this release. The later session produced the better known recording, with the heavier accompaniment, which was eventually coupled with 'Skinny Jim' to make up Eddie's first solo release in August that year. The musicians involved in the earlier session were pianist Ray Stantey, who also co-wrote the song with Jaye Fitzsimmons. Connie 'Guybo' Smith was probably playing bass, along with Jerry Capehart adding a primitive drum sound, achieved by beating a cardboard box!
MY LOVE TO REMEMBER has a long history which begins in April 1956, when Eddie made his first attempt to record a satisfactory version of the song. He returned to it later in the year when he made further efforts to get the number into shape. The version included in this set comes from the second batch of sessions, which also produced 'Pink-Peg Slacks' (version 2) and the aforementioned 'Half Loved'. Three years later Eddie again resurrected the song when he recorded a more solid version...." from cd booklet
