Mack Stevens

"I first saw Mack Stevens perform at the Denver Rockabilly Weekender in 1997, and I was stunned by his savage maniac performance!!! He played on his back, played on his stomach, and jumped into the audience, never missing a beat!!
He was drenched in sweat from the top of his brow to the tip of his cowboy boots!! As a matter of fact, never before in my life have I seen, not only an artist's shirt and blue-jeans completely drenched in sweat, but even cowboy boots which were soaked with perspiration !!! SAVVVVVVAGE TEXAS TORNADO this Mackster indeed!!!!
rollin' rockAfter the show I go meet Mack, and, while I'm thinking to myself, here's a cat I'd die to have on Rollin' Rock, before I can even open my mouth, Mack Stevens jumps in with: 'Hey Ronny, my dream has always been to record for Rollin' Rock!!!'
My jaw dropped to the floor, and, on the spot, I signed the Wild Texan to Rollin' Rock.
We recorded two CDs: 'Mack Stevens At Rollin' Rock: The Las Vegas Stomp' on Rollin' Rock/HMG 6608 and, the first Rollin' Rock CD ever released by myself (not in conjunction with another label, that is), 'Hardcore Texas Cat Music', on Rollin' Rock CD - 101.
I love this second CD the best: it features moody, dark, haunting Western rockabilly swingers such as : 'I Hate The Moon', 'Hate & Gasoline', 'Goodbye Train' and 'I'll Die Alone'. There are two driving New Orleans type numbers: 'Texas Cotton Fields', and 'The Future Is All I See', with hard crashing drums seldom heard on today's Rockabilly CD releases.
Smokin' rockers we have too with 'Peckerwood Rock', 'No Good Gal', 'Rockabilly Barbecue', 'The Raging Sea', etc., and novelty tunes such as 'Big Dog Rock'. The usual Hillbilly Boogies (with most unusual vocals!) and Rockabilly Boppers add up to 18 very fun tracks, which succeed in making this record one of my top three favourite Rollin' Rock lps/cds ever produced.
I hope y'all too will dig 'Hardcore Texas Cat Music', courtesy of Mack Stevens, with the Big Beat that is The Best In The West And The Most In The East To Say The Least !!!!!!"
