Cult Of The Psychic Fetus

This is the second album by the infamous Cult Of The Psychic Fetus. It's been a long time coming! Cult of the Psychic Fetus are at the front line of American Gothabilly / Ghoul Rock, alongside other masters like Deadbolt and a handful of other originals, with an enormous amount of second rate imitators. The surf guitars are full of reverb and get a little more intricate on this album. The thick basslines keep it creepy and serve to set it apart from the rockabilly cliché trap.
The cold, hollow, and emotionless voice of Rev. Doom, offset with choruses of rage and desperation, is another spooktacular part of their sound. Ghastly, the guitarist is one of the best. Out of all, 'In the Shadows' is one of my new favorites. 'Long Black Hearse' is also a superb track. No confusion here - this is 100% horror rock. Deathrock

"Just looking at the cover of this CD I knew I was in trouble. Four of the scariest looking guys I have seen since the early days of Christian Death or the Damned. I wondered what kind of music I was about to be exposed to, never hearing of this band prior to receiving this CD. The first song 'When the Blood is Ripe' sent me running straight for my mommy scared out of my wits. In fact the first four songs on the CD reminded me musically of Deadbolt but with lyrics much like something out of an old B horror movie. 'Dream Speed' broke up the tempo with kind of a simple punk sound to it, but right back to a hypnotic tone in 'Primitive' (I swear there must be some subliminal message in that song). 'Cannibal Girl' was a pretty snappy tune that you could even dance to with some scary dead Elvis vocals. Overall I would say that if you are into spookabilly, this is definitely the band for you. They hold true to the theme and are nightmarish looking enough to leave you trembling in terror." Handsome Herbie (May 2001)
