Bones Maki
Craig 'Bones' Maki is well known to most of all you 50s Musiclovers as the leader of the Big Barn Combo. This is his first release on Rhythm Bomb Records together with the Sun Dodgers as his backup band. 13 of the 17 tracks are written by Bones himself. Straight authentic Trio Rockabilly in the High Noon style.
"I can tell you right now, this is an album for the lovers of true 50's style rockabilly music. Packed with original self-penned rocking tracks and an occasional cover song. I could write a review saying this track is great and that one is better and the most, but I'm not gonna. I can tell you though, that the five stars were well earned, I'm still enjoying this CD tremendously. The three live tracks at the end give a pretty good indication of the fact that the band can perform on stage what they record in the studio. Much recommended!" The Black Cat
"A fourteen song collection (thirteen plus a bonus track), Craig once again teams up with the talented Graham Tichy on lead electric guitar and his long-time associate, Kenny Bruce, on upright bass. Bruce was also in Craig's former band, Big Barn Combo. 'Ride Again' has a lot to offer: Fourteen songs, mostly written by Bones Maki, but also some that feature tunes such as Marty Robbins' 'Pretty Mama' and 'Wildwood Rock', which sounds like it was written in Memphis in the 1950's. This CD features variety in sound, arrangements, tempo, and even Maki's vocals resonate differently, but effectively on this CD. On 'Everybody Thinks You're An Angel', the band serves up some spicy Cajun cooking, with a swamp-rock sound reminiscent of Dale Hawkins. Their version of Fred Netherton's 'Wildwood Rock' is faithful and flawless, while 'I Don't Suppose' once again proves Bones Maki has a talent for love ballads. The other tunes really rock, and will get you hankerin' to jump up, get your favorite filly or beau, and get jumping and jiving on the dance floor." B. K.
Bones Maki Biography
Grounded in western swing and rockabilly music, Craig 'Bones' Maki sings, plays and writes tunes that reminds one of sounds that flourished during the 1950s. In 1995, Bones cut his teeth by sitting in with the late Eddie Jackson and his group the Swingsters at gigs around Detroit's east side. The following year, he helped found the Big Barn Combo, a rockabilly band that played all over the Midwest and northern Europe during its five-year run. Bones is now fronting the Sun Dodgers, where the good-time western and rockabilly music of a bygone era is presented with renewed vitality and vim alongside originals that continue the joyful noise begun two generations ago.
