20 Blasters from Blighty
"Twenty Blasters From Blighty is a collection of rockabilly made in England. Most of these artists are pretty obscure, but the genre was never one that had a lot of potential for long-term careers. The album fluctuates between some very average boogie numbers and a few unique, fun songs that stand out amongst the more boring material. Specifically, the ghoulish 'Rockin' in the Cemetery' by Ronnie Dawson and the Planet Rockers predates the campy horror rock of the Cramps with its hilarious lyrics and crawling guitar line, while the hard rocking 'Rock Old Sputnik' is so offbeat lyrically that the song is just better because of it. In fact, the songs that stick out do so because the lyrics represent something unique, whereas most of these songs are simple tracks about either loving or hating a girl. The exception to this rule is Dawson's 'Squeaky', which is a lurching instrumental that features a high pitched guitar noise as the hook. Overall, this is not a great album, but it does have a few minor gems hidden throughout the filler. Genre fans will want to search this out, but the casual fan will probably not find this very entertaining despite the few bright spots." Bradley Torreano, All Music Guide Hide
