The Caravans - Action or slander

The Caravans - Action or slander RAUCD028The Caravans have been a permanent fixture in Rockabilly music since their emergence as one of the most popular bands at London's infamous Klubfoot in the mid-1980s. They have released a string of great records on British and European labels, and regularly tour Europe. This mini-album captures them on top form with up-tempo originals like 'I'm gonna mainline baby' and 'Nothin' 'bout nothin', a fantastic interpretation of Marianne Faithful's 'Ballad Of Lucy Jordan' and more.

The Caravans

"I can already hear the most radical psychobillies saying, 'But The Caravans are not Psycho.' No, they aren't. But there's no place for prejudice in 'O Monstro', and anyway, The Caravans (great rockabilly) have inspired and were inspired by pure psychobilly, while sharing the main European stages with Demented, Meteors, and Klingonz among others. Playing the Big Rumble three times is in itself a good reference. Once more Mark Pennington's band has released a great album - actually it's a CDEP (only six songs), with songs that certainly may become classics of the modern Rockabilly. Songs like 'A Ballad of Lucy Jordan' and 'Mainline Baby' are there to show why the band has been playing for twelve years (even though the lead singer/guitarist is the only member of the band's original formation). Gary Day plays bass on the CD, but he has already left the band and the new bassist is Paul Diffin, ex-Blue Cats. Recently playing live on a British radio programme, he was asked to demonstrate his abilities on the bass - great slap bass - not even the more radical could deny that!"
