The Nu Niles

"Formed in October of 1996 as a trio without drums (vocals/acoustic guitar, electric guitar and double-bass), the Nu Niles focused its style on the sound of its members' favourite music - 50's Rockabilly. After some performances and some demo tapes, Mike Segura joined The Nu Niles to substitute the former double-bass player, and with the founders of the band, Miguel A. Garcia (lead vocals, acoustic guitar and harmonica), Mario Cobo (electric guitar and vocals) and the new incorporation of a drummer 'Dum Dum' Roger Arteaga recorded their first E.P., 'Haircut Boogie' (El Toro Records ET.EP.519). This helped The Nu Niles to perform all over Europe making them become the most international of the Spanish Rockabilly bands. At the same time as the release of the E.P., they took part in a compilation by Bob Timmers (founding member of the Rockabilly Hall of Fame) which was called 'Rockabilly Hall of Fame Compilation Vol. 1' with the songs 'Haircut Boogie' and the Jazz standard 'Stormy weather', being the only European band of the CD with great artists from the 50's such as, Bill Haley's Comets, Narvel Felts, Glen Glenn and other American current bands.
The 1998 performances included gigs such as the one at the 20th Hemsby Festival (Norfolk - UK), the 10\'ba Anniversary Pub Kezka in Zaragoza, 5\'ba R'n'R Festival backing Joe Clay, The Matchtown Cruisers meeting (Jönköping - Sweden) and the Festival of Bourges R'n'R Association.
In 1999 Daniel Nunes joined The Nu Niles replacing Mike Segura on double-bass and Mike changed to electric rhythm guitar, 'Dum Dum' Roger Artega was replaced by Joaquín Arteaga (no relation), making the band a quintet. In June of that year the Nu Niles recorded their first album, 'Good luck, Good Friends & Good rockin' for the German label, Part Records. Its release all over Europe coincided with the tour that The Nu Niles made, playing in Italy, Germany and Belgium and ending on the 20th of November at the BCN Hayride (Prat of the Llobregat - Barcelona), sharing the stage with Big Sandy & the Fly-rite boys (USA) and the Barnstompers (Holland).
In just three years, The Nu Niles became the most solid Rockabilly band that Spain had seen, their songs having a unique sound with a rich mixture of styles (50's Rockabilly, Swing Western, Hillbilly, R&B, Jazz, Bluegrass and 50's Rock and Roll)." Excerpted from band website
