The Bricats
There's something so beguiling about this band and I'm not sure exactly what it is.....could it be that as proficient as they are, there's an underlying feeling that they don't take themselves seriously. According to the label these guys are appearing on TV in Germany and doing OK for themselves. Whatever, there's a definite sense of them having a good time on these recordings. The opening track is humorous, and musically has great harmonies. I'd like to see these guys live, they are so hard to categorize, but I'd put them somewhere between The Darts and King Pleasure with a twist of The Scamps. Deathrow Database #36
Some years ago the Bricats started to rock (not only) the southern part of Germany. The trio from Bavaria plays melodious, swinging Rock'n'Roll, Boogie and Rockabilly, partly with Doo-Wop influences. Appearances at Hemsby and the German Boogie Championship 1999 speak for themselves. The music magazines were full of praise for their CD "BiggesTits", and the band is often compared with the legendary Keytones. Dance music! Andy Widder 2000
"I'm not an easy guy to shock, but maybe The Bricats have gone beyond the limits of bad taste when they wrote the song, 'Girls' Farts Are Smelly As Well' for this CD. Although I don't always share their sense of humor, I must admit having thoroughly enjoyed this disc. The German trio plays Stargazers-style Jive, sometimes bordering on white Doo-Wop, and on a few songs they even switch to a rockabilly mode. There are eight originals (one of which is titled 'Don't Drink And Jive'!) and ten covers ('Don't Be Angry', 'Tired And Sleepy', 'You're 16', etc.). It all works well and makes you feel like tappin' your feet." Continental Restyling 1999
"Naughty but fun, that's the Bricats (pronounced Breeecats) from Germany, one of Europe's hot new jive-rock bands. The trio of brothers, Herrbert (double bass) and Günter Öller (guitar, lap-steel) and schoolmate Neven Klacic (drums) uses high school humour (like the play on words in the title of their CD) and sharp musicianship, both fuelled by a high degree of enthusiasm, to entertain - and the key word here is entertain. Plays on words are everywhere, like the opening cut, 'Don't Drink and Jive'. They offer up many self-penned ditties and a few covers, such as Jimmy McCracklin's 'The Walk', which the liner notes say is a 'wild blues-bopper sung with a dirty voice', and Johnny Burnette's 'You're Sixteen'. Their presentational style runs mostly to swing." Rock And Blues News 2000
