Phil Haley and his Comments
"This knockout four piece combo from the U.K. play classic fifties rock'n'roll with a crazy stage show to boot! Phil Haley and his Comments are constantly touring, appearing at festivals throughout the U.K., mainland Europe and Scandinavia. Their first tour 'down-under' in June 2002 featured an appearance at the Wintersun Festival, with a further ten shows along the east coast. The band first captured our attention when we caught them at a festival in Munich in July 2000. We couldn't believe our eyes, not only did these guys sound like Bill Haley and the Comets, Phil actually looks like Bill's twin brother! Never have we seen 'classic' rock'n'roll performed in such an authentic way. The proof is here in their debut release 'Everybody needs to rock', which features ten original compositions done in the clasic (Bill) Haley style and four covers. Hell, we were so impressed guys and dolls, that we signed them up straight away....enjoy." Preston Records - Australia
"I suppose the name of this band gives a big clue to the style of music they play, and what a great name, never fails to raise a smile. Phil Haley sounds a hell of lot like his hero and looks a like him too - it all helps with the package that is Phil Haley and his Comments. For a four piece band (drums, guitar, bass and sax) they produce one hell of a sound - and YES they sound just like the Comets. That's the first thing that hits you, they sound just like Haley and the Comets, which is the whole point I suppose - they also write in the style of the Comets sound with ten original numbers which could easily have been plucked from Bill's back catalogue. 'Everybody Needs To Rock', the opener and title track is the best song on the CD - pure Haley (but written by Phil) - a fantastic thumping jiver - followed by the close second best track, 'Collette', another of Phil's songs - I really like these two songs and will be happy to play them as jivers the next time I'm DJing. There is nothing wrong with the rest of the album at all - but the first two grabbed me straight away. The covers are 'Burn That Candle', 'Hot Dog Buddy Buddy', 'Can't Stop Me From Dreaming' and 'Dim, Dim The Lights' - four belters and the Comments give them full justice. I'd still play the originals given the choice but nevertheless these boys are very good. I believe the Comments come from the cabaret circuit, where I'm not surprised to hear they go down a storm. I wouldn't hold that against them - this is one terrific album and I look forward to seeing Phil and the gang taking the rockin' clubs and weekenders by storm. They are a superb jive band that would be fit to grace any stage." Koolsville - Scotland
