The Chrome Daddies
Absolutely brilliant Australian Rockabilly. It says 'Limited Edition' on the CD, so.....
"Slappin' double bass, slippery lap steel and a couple of other monkeys thrown in just to make them look good! The Chrome Daddies have just updated Western Swing for your listening pleasure (hang in there and eagerly anticipate the next album for living proof). Shake down and limber up for Australia's hottest new swing on strings... Crash Craddock, Moon Mullican and Web Pierce have been brought into the 21stcentury. The Chrome Daddies will entice you off your seat with an electrifying mix of Rockabilly, Western Swing, Roots & Bluesabilly & good ol' New Country. If you can't dance, smile or nurse a breaking heart to this music (perhaps all simultaneously) your probaly dead and seeking medical advice is a serious option. The Chrome Daddies are veterans of Queensland's Wintersun Festival, Festival of Beers and Woodford Folk Festival (boy do they love a festival .. especially one celebrating beer). They are also all over Australia at the coolest venues and dance clubs. This band has no fear of sound level meters and have attracted a devoted following right across this little rockin' blue planet." Official band press release
"In the short time since this Bris. band were birthed onto the scene, the Chrome Daddies have amassed a considerable following, an enviable reputation for boogie and beat, and stellar appearances at some of this town's biggest festivals including the Summertime Blues Festival and the recent Greaze Fest. The Chrome Daddies star Doug Wilshire (vocals, steel guitar and banjo - just forget Deliverance), Jon Flynn (vocals, upright bass), Stuart Docherty (guitar, slide guitar) and the singing drummer, Geoff Townsley. I love this album to bits, from the opening riffs of 8 Ball to the ultimate notes of Stuart's Boogie! Live the Chrome Daddies play an intoxicating mix of rockabilly, country, western swing, swing and blues, however this album doesn't reflect the full scope of their live repertoire, instead focusing more on the rockabilly end of the scale due to label restraints. Hey but that's OK, what's here is tasty indeed! The album was recorded in three track mono at Preston Studios in Melbourne which is the only studio in the country still using old valve equipment. The resultant sound is vintage and totally authentic. Of the 16 tracks, only two are covers all but one of the rest penned by Doug Wilshire. Stuart Docherty gets to finish the album with Stuart's Boogie. The material is very groovy and the album lacks nothing for its inclusion. I'm tempted to go on and on about this album however space restraints prevent me from doing so. Let me just say the performances are consummate, the songs are first rate and this is an album you need to buy." Blue Country News
