Really good Eurobilly from Slovenia, with excellent production, loads of oomph and that 'sweeping' guitar sound. It's got that 'Eurobilly' style - think of Mac Curtis on King meets Joe Meek! Mostly sung in Slovene, but don't let that put you off. This is an excellent CD from The Lucky Cupids, with some nice melodic, catchy songs. They were good enough for The Rockabilly Rave.....The title translates as 'Come the day'.
"The Lucky Cupids was established in 1994 and plays mainly the crazy 50's rockabilly music, a mix between swing, surf, rhythm and blues, a little country and western style. Their first CD, Pride Dan was released in 1999 and is the first and only rockabilly project in Slovenia. Almost all the songs are in Slovene, but don't let that put you off, because all tracks sound really great! The first thing that strikes me when listening to the CD, is that the many familiar songs do not sound like cover versions. They sound new and original. The band did not copy the songs note by note, but added their own musical ideas. The instrumental side of the tracks is very strong, fresh and professional. Vocalist Andrej Rudolf sounds a lot like Vince Taylor. Other influences are The Johnny Burnette Trio, Gene Vincent and The Stray Cats. Skupina je bila ustanovljena leta 1994, vendar je od originalne zasedbe ostal le ustanovitelj skupine in pevec Andrej Rudolf. Repertuar skupine zajema predvsem rockabillyjevsko glasbo s prizvokom petdesetih let, ki jo skupina po svoje interpretira. Nastopali so v vecjih dvoranah, diskotekah in popularnih nocnih klubih po vsej Sloveniji, pa tudi na pomembnih festivalih kot sta Lent (leta '97 in '99) in Soboški dnevi. Njihov prvi glasbeni album 'Legende' je nastal konec leta '96 v sodelovanju s pevcem Aleksandrom Mezkom. Leta 1999 je skupina izdala svoj lastni album z naslovom Pride dan..., na katerem najdemo posnetke pretezno v slovenskem jeziku. Izšel je junija letos pri zalozbi Nika. Njihov album lahko štejemo za prvi rockabilly-jevski CD v slovenskem jeziku (ce pac ne upoštevamo popevkarskih skupin z rockabillyjevskimi priceskami). Kmalu po koncanem snemanju je bobnarja Gašperja Bertonclja zamenjal Grega Zamljen Usenik, namesto kitarista Markota Piršica pa je prišel Jernej Zoran. Kontrabasista Iztoka Rubina je zamenjal Aleš Kolar. Zasedba je torej prenovljena, ceprav se slog skupine ni spremenil - mocno pa se je seveda izboljšala kvaliteta igranja. Na vecini slik, ki so bile posnete za promocijo cd-ja, so še vedno stari clani (razen Gregata, ki ga lahko vidite na nekaterih fotkah).
