Lyndon Needs - Cool school days

Lyndon Needs - MF018Lyndon Needs is the lead guitarist with Crazy Cavan 'n' The Rhythm Rockers - the world's number one Teddy Boy band. This was his first solo album and features a good slap-bass sound from the backing outfit - Breathless, who were formed from younger brothers of the Rhythm Rockers.

Lyndon Needs

"During the past ten years or so one of the most outstanding exponents of the music (and lifestyle) of rock 'n' roll has, without question, been the very successful Crazy Cavan 'n' The Rhythm Rockers. Noted for some of the most exciting and wild performances around, Cavan and the band rocked and rolled, quite literally, all around the world, and became one of the few genuine 50s styled outfits to have 'gone gold'. The Rhythm Rockers were quite unique in that, with the exception of bass players, the line-up remained intact from day one. Lyndon Needs was a founder member way, way back and has earned the deserved reputation of being one of the hardest working rock 'n' roll guitarists around and one whose on-stage antics visually enhanced Cavan's stage show. Much of their success comes from the fact that this very self contained unit wrote nearly everything they ever recorded and performed at live gigs. Whilst Cavan takes major credit for this output, Lyndon Needs, his wildly extrovert showman guitarist must take second honours and his songs are some of the most requested (remember Sadie, Sweet Baby Jean, Alligator Shoes). Lyndon's songs keep on coming and it seemed a very natural step for him to record some of his most recent compositions - this twelve track album showcases some of the best. Much of the material on the album is significantly different from the Rhythm Rockers sound - for instance the R&B-influenced 'Naggin' Woman'; the country flavoured 'Just Love Me' and the hep 'Swingin' Daddy'. The title track 'School Days' is a barely disguised owning-up time opus of the mayhem of Lyndon's own schooldays, whilst Cavan fans will feel at home with the outro track 'Never Gonna Work Again' which could well be considered very much a song of our time. Finally, a word about the musicians on 'Cool School Days'. I think you will find many authentic sounds - sounds which come naturally to rock 'n' roll players - sounds which Lyndon knew he could achieve as the sidemen were most carefully chosen. Eddie and Colin from Breathless provide principal backup, helped, on occasion by Vance from The Rhythm Rockers whilst Howell picks his way through some fine country licks on the 'Just Love Me' and 'You Say You Will' tracks. There's no more to say - Crack a six pack - enjoy the wax." Adrian Owlett
