Lennerockers
In the late Seventies and the early Eighties, the big Rockabilly Revival happened all over Europe. It started in England with bands like Crazy Cavan and Rythm Rockers, Matchbox, Jets, Flying Saucers, Shakin' Stevens and the Sunsets, Johnny and the Roccos and from America the Stray Cats, to name a few. At this time, in Hohenlimburg, a bunch of teenagers, big fans and followers of that movement, decided to get themselves a band, too. The Lennerockers were born. In 1983, the two brothers, Michael 'Ele' and Stefan Koch, quit their classical piano lessons after about ten years of torturing innocent piano teachers and rehearsed with friends out of the neighborhood, to play the music they really loved.
The right lineup was found quickly. Michael 'Ele' becomes the lead singer and started to play the tenor banjo, his little fourteen year old brother remained at the piano for good and the line-up was completed by Dieter Korth, who was lucky enough to find an old upright bass in the cellar of a friend's house and to restore it. Frank Buttgereit was given a guitar with the words 'You'll play the guitar from now on!' and last but not least Michael Schott, who played the tambourine until he bought himselves some proper drums. The first official gig was on Feb. 2nd in 1984. The rest is history.
