Psychoburg is a collection of tracks by St. Petersburg's psycho bands released in 1997. As far as you will notice the skills of presented bands vary widely but it's just a reflection of real life. The album is dedicated to Saint-Petersburg.
"Here is the third and last compilation from the 'Psychoburg' series. It was produced by the leader of Scary BOOM, Kirill Ermichev, who also made the cover design. The first volume 'Psychoburg: Aboriginals' was released in 1997 and features only St. Petersburg bands. However, on this new compilation, there are also bands from other Russian towns and even from the Ukraine and Belorussia. Scary BOOM's 'Crocodile Hunting' is from their new album 'The Food of the Gods'. Necessary to know that the band has its own style called 'scarybilly'. But this track is more into psycho. Neo Rockabilly band The Rattlesnakes present their song with psycho influences called 'Lady Wild'. They're a professional band, and Yura sings very well. The Meantraitors are a bit different when they play live - more fun, so they are a good choice for the compilation. The band from Tula called Stressor play melodic neo-rockabilly. They have nice vocalist and interesting themes in their music. The St. Petersburg band Mosquito have a song which they recorded a few years ago for a radio show. It is a good example of the early Mosquito days. During the last few years, the dark psycho band Bombers became big fans of surf music. The leader/guitarist 'Kalya' prefers to play instrumentals, and now he has a big opportunity for his twang experiments. My local neighbors, The Rebel Rousers, don't play live very often. Last time I saw them was at the 'Klim Voroshilov Club' a year ago. They played good teenage rockabilly with mostly self-written songs. This studio track sounds more like psycho, and is interesting to listen to, but they don't seem to have much of an idea about their music yet. Still, it is good to see that the band is growing. Die Spiele Den Drei Dummkopf has always impressed me with their crazy live shows. The short number 'Brief Storm' is a good dose of fun psycho with an electric bass. Kirill Ermichev has said that they have tendencies toward scarybilly. In any case, they have their own interesting style. The vocalist knows how to make his sharp voice into an additional instrument. Attrackars are a band from the middle 90's. For those who remember 'TaMtAm Club' days, this song is a good gift. 'Road 169' is a Shatters song from 1998. They have a nice accordion as a guest instrument here (a throwback to their early days when they played rockabilly with an accordion). Today, they play more solid music. 'Untitled' song is too far from psycho/rockabilly. However, it is good, with nice concert whistling. The Verts haven't played since 1994. They gathered together to record this song. This time, they are a three-piece band with distortion guitar, Roman 'Poks' on lead guitar, and on the drums they had recruited the original Scary BOOM drummer, Andrew Dukin. Very interesting psycho, not for easy listening. The band from Belorussia called the Nitkie play outstanding psycho with good vocals and interesting guitar riffs. It seems that they are big enthusiasts since they have had to play with the drum-machine for a long time. Now, they've luckily found a real drummer and have recently played several concerts in Belorussia and St. Petersburg. I think the Mad Heads from the Ukraine don't need any commentary. They performed a crazy hit 'Radioactive Rock' from their last Album 'Mad In Ukraine'. Good lyrics and nice guitar-playing. The legendary Swindlers had a 10-year anniversary celebration in 1998 and played great shows through the St. Petersburg clubs. They also recorded a live concert with two original members (the guitarist and drummer). Their song 'Vodka and Kalashnikov' has Russian lyrics. The Razefit song 'Red Fence' was recorded in 1992. The leader Vova 'Hohol' plays on guitar and has very good vocals here. The last song 'The Heart of the Abyss' is a great melodic number. The band has a video clip filmed for this song. When they wrote this song, they were inspired by the music of the soviet composer. 'The Heart Of the Abyss' is a good example of the pure scarybilly song, and also is a good closing number for 'Psychoburg: The Happy End' compilation." Kirill
