Hot Rockin'
Hot Rockin' - once called 'Porky's Hot Rockin' are a British 'club' Rockabilly act. There are some nice songs here, and a bit more 'production' would have been a good investment, but it's still very enjoyable. The tribute track to Billy Fury is made basically from the song 'Cross my heart', but it's really well done, and manages to weave in lots of Billy Fury song titles. This is the title track to this album, and is the standout track. It's worth the price of the whole thing for this one track, which is SUPERB. There's also an interesting cover of Jack Scott's 'My true love' done as a stroller!!! The band website is www.hotrockin.co.uk.
Dave 'Porky' Coates - Vocals, guitar, harp, slide
Johnny Coates - Drums, backing vocals
Kevin Fuller - Double bass
Chris Finn - lead guitar
"Yes, we were certainly hot and rockin' to the best 'new' band on the circuit today, 'Hot Rockin'. They made their first appearance in Leicestershire and simply went down a bomb! 'Hot Rockin' are four talented musicians fronted by lead singer Dave (Porky) who play rock 'n' roll, rockabilly and strollers just how we like to hear it. They are amusing, likeable personalities from Cromer and are the most exciting group on the scene to emerge for a long time. There was a good turn-out with many people coming to see this band for the first time. They began their first set just after 9pm crashing straight into 'Johnny B Goode' following up with 'Honey Don't', 'Hey Mae', 'One Hand Loose', 'Crazy Legs' and 'Stockings & Shoes'. The relentless pace never diminished and the room was absolutely buzzing. Between sets Maz played a good variety of records. In their second set, the frantic pace continued and there seemed more dancers than ever; everyone enjoying every song. Rapturous applause was heard for nearly every number. 'Can Ya Bop, Can Ya Boogie' was a speciality, delivered with great style and character and their rendering of 'Lonesome Train' was as good a version as we've ever heard! They finally said 'goodbye' with 'Forty Days' and people still shouted for more. Their current CD, We're Hot, We're Rockin' contains ten self-penned tracks plus seven standards. Give it a listen, you won't be disappointed. It was 18 months ago when Sandy & Phil introduced these guys at the Richmond weekender. Since then, they have catapulted to the heights of success on the rock 'n' roll circuit picking up fans wherever they play. Be prepared for tired feet." Maggie's Blue Suede News - 2002
