Deadcats
Highly impressive debut CD from this wild Vancouver combo who mix Rockabilly, Punk and Surf music. 15 killer tunes incuding 'Interplanetary fungus' featured on the CTV show 'Madison'.'
"Do you like your rock and roll rough and rowdy? If so, we have the band/cd for you. You will get fifteen tracks of all out wild hillbilly, surf, and punk with a pinch of psychobilly from these cats or shall we say Deadcats from up north, Vancouver Canada to be exact. The group starts off with 'I'm a Rock', followed by a surf/psycho number 'She Devil' then with a strong surf guitar in 'Slobs from Planet 9'. 'Going down to Memphis' gets going with a steady hillbilly slap and some punk influences along the lines of the Ramones. Well, I personally like The Deadcats well played version of 'Girlstown' smooth punk riffs. Also a well performed version of the rock and roll classic 'Rock Around with Ollie V'. 'Voodoo Queen' is another favorite of mine from this release. I like the slap of the bass and the surf guitar with the psycho presence along with 'Sphincter on Fire' which would be a great number in any horror film or Halloween party this song is sung with a coarse, wrapsy voice. 'Hank's Cadillac' is another hillbilly/rockabilly song. Finishing off the album with the title song 'Bucket of Love' with more surf is a great way of leaving you wanting more. If you like The Cramps, Ramones, Link Wray and Dick Dale you will enjoy this release and the music brought to you from Canada's The Deadcats." Mary Gunning - May 2000
