Ronnie Hayward Trio
"Some people refer to the Ronnie Hayward Trio as a retro-country group, and some call it rockabilly. Any country music heard is not contemporary but is likely to be from the 40’s or 50’s. Since 1984, when living in Vancouver, Ronnie Hayward has been a founding member of bands such as Jimmy Roy's 5 Star Hillbillies, The Nervous Fellas, The Bughouse Five and The Yo-Dells. With these groups and others, he toured Canada and the United States several times, including recording nearly 20 albums as a bass player and songwriter. Nine years working with a well rounded variety of roots-oriented musicians gave him a solid background and led to the formation of his own group, The Ronnie Hayward Trio. He has been the opening act for Jerry Lee Lewis, KD Lang and The Pogues, has played The Hemsby Festival in England twice and toured England four times. He received such an enthusiastic response from the European audiences that his fourth tour, originally scheduled for two months, lasted one year and a half. Back in Canada since July 1999, Ronnie has been busy establishing himself in Alberta. Now credited with 5 albums, he is awaiting the soon-to-be-released latest recording (done in Amsterdam) featuring 16 original songs of country and blues material. Billy Cowsill has been entertaining crowds with music since the 60's as a member of the family group, The Cowsills. While living in Vancouver in the early 1990's, he was co-founder of the successful Blue Shadows and did extensive touring to promote the 2 albums recorded by the band. Billy is one of the favorite singers of a lot of people in Alberta either with a group or when he’s performing solo. With the Ronnie Hayward Trio, Billy plays rhythm guitar and sings harmony. Craig Korth will be a familiar face to Shady Grove Bluegrass Festival attendees. Craig has been the banjo man (and plays occasional guitar) and sings with Edmonton's Jerusalem Ridge, probably the best bluegrass band in Canada. The whole band can't make it to Shady Grove but in some of his spare time Craig is also a member of the Ronnie Hayward Trio. In honor of the acoustic nature of a bluegrass festival Craig will leave his electric Gibson rockabilly guitar at home on this occasion, and trade-off instruments between his banjo and Dobro."
