The Meteors

The first ever DVD to feature the kings of the Psychobilly movement, The Meteors.
The Meteors have been hammering out their no-nonsense cranked up rockabilly and rock'n'roll for the best part of a quarter of a century. Essentially The Meteors are guitarist/singer P Paul Fenech, legendary man of attitude with a guitar style best described as dangerous.
VIDEO NASTY and LIVE AT THE HELLFIRE CLUB, available for the first time on DVD, feature The Meteors at their blistering best and have been painstakingly re-mastered for the best possible visual and audio quality. Recorded on 21 December 1983, in front of a packed, sweaty audience, LIVE AT THE HELLFIRE CLUB features most of the band's early classics and includes three tracks not included on the video release. VIDEO NASTY consists of four tracks recorded at Britain's 'temple' of psychobilly, The Klub Foot, in July 1987, the band's barnstorming set from the 'Night of the Long Knives' all-dayer at the Hummingbird, Birmingham in July 1988 and promos for the singles 'Go Buddy Go' and 'Rawhide'.

"The godfathers of Psychobilly are now also the first band in the scene who released a DVD, which consists of the previously on VHS released 'Video Nasty' and 'Live At The Hellfire Club' and some bonus material, all in all 40 songs - most of them real psychobilly classics. Both videos have been remastered for the best possible quality, and in fact the visual and audio quality is much better compared to the videotapes. Some of the recordings are very old (they range from 1983-1988) and because of that the quality can't always reach today's standards, but then again this is not a Hollywood production, and it is still very enjoyable. And, as mentioned before, the quality is much better than VHS quality, so there's no reason to complain! A helpful feature is that you can select each song like you're used to from CD, although I would rather watch it completely.
Most fans of the Meteors probably already know the tapes, but for those who don't here's a short overview: 'Video Nasty' starts with a videoclip of 'Go Buddy Go' which is followed by four tracks recorded 1987 at the legendary Klubfoot in London with a very enthusiastic audience. These songs have the best quality on the DVD, the video and audio quality is brilliant! The next twelve songs are recorded 1988 in front of a large audience at the 'Night Of The Long Knives' in Birmingham. The quality is not as good as the Klubfoot recordings, but still pretty good. A videoclip of the Meteors' 'Rawhide' closes this first part of the DVD.
The second part, 'Live At The Hellfire Club', recorded 1983, differs from the videotape because it includes three songs more: Get Off My Cloud, Rawhide, and Insane. The last track on the DVD is a promo clip of 'Slow Down You Graverobbing Bastard' which dissapoints a little bit because the sound quality can't really satisfy.
But what really counts is that this DVD catches the energy and atmosphere of a Meteors live performance - it's fast, aggressive and straight in your face. It animates to wreck, especially if you invite some friends and consume a huge amount of alcohol, so be careful! Although the DVD doesn't take advantage of all technical possibilities I can highly recommend it - to Meteors fans who want to complete their collection as well as to kids who just got in the scene and want to know what Psychobilly is all about. It's a great history lesson! I hope Cherry Red decides to re-release more Jettisoundz videos on DVD!
The DVD has no regional code, so you can play it on a European DVD player as well as on an American one." Madman
