"Fourteen tracks, all originals from this German four piece band - all sung in English, which for me, a man who doesn't speak any other languages, helps a great deal. I'm a lover of good, well constructed songs and this band have put together fourteen numbers that, in my book, all meet that criteria. The production is great too (check out those tom-toms!). So all in all a good CD from a band I confess to knowing little about. How impressed was I? Well, I'm just about to e-mail them to find out more."

The Pitmen

The Pitmen were founded in the spring of 1995, when drummer Peer Timmer and double bass-player Grischa Dördelmann where looking for suitable musicians to play with. After trying for years with other Billies they became keen on Christian Waleschkowski (vocals/acoustic guitar) who was performing at this time with an Irish Folk group. Grischa tried to call him on the phone, but in his well-known mess he got the number of Christian Rubbert ('Christian' was a very often used first name in the early seventies in Germany) who also played the (electric) guitar. So Peer and Grischa were quiet surprised when Christian Rubbert appeared at their rehearsal room. Singer Christian Waleschkowski joined the other three guys a few weeks later. After playing cover songs, they soon graduated to singing their own compositions. In the winter of 1997 they recorded their first CD called 'Listen To The Engine'.
