Bored and constrained by the sterile, DJ dominated music scene in her native London Kathy X moved to Berlin with a few Link Wray CD´s, a beat-up SG and a dream of creating a 100% live, rockin', power trio. While searching for the perfect bandmates, she continued playing with party-band Death Valley Surfers.
Finally, after two years of searching far and wide, she met Rob (former bassist with Mad Sin) and drummer Dave Crome (Bo Diddley, Del Shannon, Danny & the Juniors, The Shirelles, Dick Clark and the legendary D.J. Wolfman Jack). The three began playing out at bars, clubs, and tattoo conventions to the acclaim of audiences everywhere. The attention landed them a spot on Wolverine Records' 'It's Not Just Boys Fun' compilation. Shortly thereafter, the group produced their first full-length - 'Ready for Anything'. They have supported the Meteors and have opened for the HorrorPops, too.
Gerade habe ich noch die 7" EP von KATHY X besprochen, da flattert mir auch schon das im Sommer diesen Jahres in Polen erschienende Album ins Haus. Na gut, das passierte auf Nachfrage, aber ich habe mich so in die Band verliebt, daß ich nicht anders konnte. Diese Band, ansässig in Berlin, hat es mir nämlich einfach angetan. Kein 0-8-15 Rockabilly… Straighter Punk'n'Roll mit Frauengesang. Was die EP allerdings versprochen hat, kann das Album nicht ganz halten. Vielleicht ist das EP-Format ja wirklich das Beste Format für Musik dieser Art. Da wird es einem nicht langweilig - vielleicht ja auch deshalb, weil man nach 2 Songs aufstehen und die Platte umdrehen muss. Auf FullLength gesehen erscheint es mir dann nicht mehr ganz so abwechslungsreich. Trotzdem befindet sich auf der Platte, die bisher in Deutschland noch nicht erschienen ist, der ein oder andere tanzbare Hit. Noch besser ist es wahrscheinlich, wenn man das internationale Trio live bewundern kann. Dort treten sie mit Sicherheit noch mal um Einiges mehr in den Arsch. Im Dezember bietet sich für mich da ja die Möglichkeit. Ich muss mich jetzt da noch ein bisschen mehr rein hören. Auf jeden Fall ist das Teil noch um Längen besser, was sonst so gerade an Platten erscheint. Testet das mal an. Es lohnt sich.
