Banane Metalik

Banane Metalik were a French (Breton) Psychobilly band - probably the best. They were sort of the French 'Demented Are Go!'. I saw them live at one of the 'Big Rumble' weekenders and they were pretty classy. Some of them were dressed as angels, and while others wore monk's outfits. The music took a bit of getting into, but once 'got into', it was wonderful. It's a shame that Banane Metalik never got to make a proper 'videoclip', because I'm sure that it would have been sensational. The name is a sort of description of the band - a 'banane' being also the French slang for a quiff (Metallic quiff'), and Banane Métalik is also a French cartoon character. If you're looking for something truly different in the world of Psychobilly, it's right here. Vive les defoncés....

"I've had a couple of their tracks on some compilations and, until recently, I haven't been able to look past their incredibly stupid name. I decided that I liked the music and I could overlook their name and went on a quest for the CD. Well, I found it and, what can I say, THIS CD IS *UCKING GREAT!! I don't speak French (did I mention that about 95 per cent of it is in French?) but whatever they're saying sure sounds evil. These guys make Mad Sin, Demented Are Go, Klingonz and The Mad Mongols all seem like a bunch of girl scouts. What this CD has is some heavy clicking bass, some hard guitar that's very metallic (metalik? hmm..) some good drumming and a singer who has managed to take the French language and make it sound menacing. This whole album is good but some tracks that stand out are Satan's Bed, Psychopathe, Festin de Sang, and Killer Bananas. This stuff rocks. If you're into Mad Sin and Los Gatos Locos, get this CD and you will be pleased. I doubt that I could like it any better if it was in English. Check out the pictures in the booklet too, crazy stuff. This is what I call PSYCHO!" Matt Stout
