"Ray Ruff is a promotional genius and the best there ever was." Jimmy Bowen

The record industry has recognized Ray as the innovative forerunner of national record promotions in the modern era. He has to his credit some 27 major superstars which he had taken from their first record to superstardom through his record promotions. Ray's mentor, the legendary Norman Petty, producer of Buddy Holly's career, took him under his wing in 1956 and taught him the tricks of the trade while helping him create a few new ones. At 17 years old Ray Ruff became an A&R man at Paramount/Dot records and at the age of 22 became A&R Director for the entire company....
Leaving Petty's tutelage at the age of 17, Ray Ruff moved to Los Angeles becoming an A&R man and producer for Paramount/Dot Records where he achieved countless gold and platinum records with his record productions and national promotions. With his success, Ray Ruff became the company's Director of A&R. In 1970, President of M.G.M. Records, Mike Curb wooed Ray away from Paramount/Dot Records persuading Ray to create his own label, Oak Records with the debut album, 'Truth of Truths' which is a rock opera In 1972, Ray Ruff put his music career on hold, running for the U.S. Representative Congressional seat for his home town, Amarillo, Texas. After his political sidebar, Ray Ruff returned to his music career stating, 'I found the record industry to be more honest than politics, who knew?' In 1974, Ray was commissioned by the U.S. Congress and sanctioned by the NEA to create the official bicentennial album, 'Happy Birthday U.S.A.', in which many major superstars and political figures participated. After 'Happy Birthday U.S.A.' in 1977, Ray and Mike formed country and pop labels with Barry Gordy and Suzzanne De Passe at Motown. This, in actuality, was the beginning of what would become Curb Records. Later in 1979, a deal was made with Warner Brothers to move the country label from Motown, forming Warner/Curb Records. Curb Records began with no office other than Ray Ruff's kitchen table and a one-line phone. John Curb, Peter Svendsen, and Ray Ruff were the nucleus of Warner/Curb Records as Mike Curb was the then Lt. Governor of California. Curb Records became the most successful country labels in the industry releasing scores of hit records through Electra/Curb, MCA/Curb and Capitol/Curb is still controlling the country charts. Today, Ray Ruff is dusting off his bag-of-tricks and Oak Records and coming back as a major force in the industry.... From Ray Ruff's website
