It's been about thirty years since Elvis 'left the building', but he's still one of the most famous people on the planet. People still buy his records in the millions, and his fans young and old still idolise him. There will NEVER be another Elvis. Some people want to BE Elvis, but they can't, so they become imitators. Others just respect his music, and want to play it in order to be a part of what Elvis was about. They are not really copyists in the true sense of the word, but merely people playing a kind of tribute. It all adds to the mythology in much the same way that people in the past have written millions of words about religion. In time, these words become part of the religion itself. Let us not forget that an artist of high status will attract the best songwriters, and there was no-one of a higher status than Elvis.
